Mal Websites research part 3

I have come across some great Google Maps mash ups.
These are all music related.

Live music based on your location. Works pretty well.

Navigate to ‘new’ music based on locations. Not as good as it first appears.
Visually though it looks great.

This streams music from your harddrive to your mobile.
I think it also uses LastFM to stream radio to your phone based on your musical taste.
Clear in that it does not need a server but uses each users PC as a server and relays on the users ISP to provide enough bandwidth.

A clever workaround/hack that allows the currentLocation call in Google Gears to be used externally.

Mozilla Fennec
January 19, 2009
Fennec from Mozilla is basically a sister browser to Firefox. Its a web browser for mobiles phones/other devices.

Even though we are developing our own application I think its good to develop an application within a working shell like a web browser.
Here is some basic info on Fennec
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fennec_(browser)
And here is a blog about development for Fennec.

Alt-Tags for Images
January 14, 2009
I think it will be important to consider Alt-Tags for images on our Mobile Web App, as people may decice to switch-off the automatic image loading function to keep bandwidth down to make it cheaper to surf on their mobiles.
“The “alt” attribute tells the reader what he or she is missing on a page if the browser can’t load images. The browser will then display the alternate text instead of the image. It is a good practice to include the “alt” attribute for each image on a page, to improve the display and usefulness of your document for people who have text-only browsers e.g. <img src=”boat.gif” alt=”Big Boat”>“
